KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 7): Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd (Perodua) achieved record-high vehicle sales and production volumes in 2024, marking an 8.4% increase in sales compared to the previous year, along with its highest production output to date.

Perodua recorded total vehicle sales of 358,102 units in 2024, surpassing its previous record of 330,325 units in 2023, according to the national car maker in a statement on Tuesday.

Production volume also reached an all-time high of 368,100 vehicles, a 7.2% increase from the 343,400 units produced in 2023.

Moving forward, Perodua president and chief executive officer Datuk Seri Zainal Abidin Ahmad noted that the year 2025 will bring both "new challenges and opportunities", along with heightened competition from emerging automotive brands in the market.

"Perodua remains ready to continue its role in charting the way forward for the automotive industry," Zainal said, noting that the company’s achievements reflect its potential and set a benchmark for the industry amid an expanded installed capacity of 320,000 units.

Zainal also forecasted the total industry volume (TIV) — which tracks new vehicle registrations — for 2024 to exceed 814,000 units, surpassing the Malaysian Automotive Association’s revised target of 800,000 units. Perodua accounted for 44% of this TIV.

"In fact, based on the same numbers, we estimate that Perodua was the main growth driver last year,” Zainal said.

On a quarterly basis, Perodua registered 97,741 vehicles between October and December 2024, a 0.7% increase compared to 97,098 units in the same period in 2023. In December alone, the company sold 32,202 vehicles, a 3.2% rise from 31,210 units in December 2023.

In after-sales services, Perodua recorded a 9.7% increase in vehicle intakes, servicing 3.4 million vehicles in 2024 compared to 3.1 million in 2023.
