(Dec 19): Taiwan’s China Airlines Ltd will order two dozen Boeing Co and Airbus SE long-range passenger and air cargo jets as it seeks to renew its fleet of older planes.
The carrier said it will order 10 each of Airbus and Boeing’s largest twin-aisle jets, the A350-1000 and B777-9, while also taking four of Boeing’s 777-8 freighters, it said in a stock exchange filing on Thursday.
It’s the first time that China Airlines has added the two passenger-aircraft variants to its fleet. The carrier already has 15 Airbus A350-900s and also flies the older 777 model. Its fleet of more than 80 planes is broadly balanced between both manufacturers.
China Airlines said the deal is valued at almost US$12 billion (RM53.6 billion) at list price, though carriers usually negotiate substantial discounts. Deliveries will commence in 2029.
