KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 13): Malaysia Airlines and Uzbekistan Airways said on Friday that they have reinstated their codesharing agreement in a partnership that would boost connectivity across Southeast Asia and Central Asia.

The renewed agreement sees Malaysia Airlines introducing its “MH” flight code on the Tashkent–Kuala Lumpur route operated by Uzbekistan Airways, marking its entry into Central Asia and providing a direct link to the region, according to a joint statement.

Uzbekistan Airways, meanwhile, will place its “HY” code on select routes operated by Malaysia Airlines, such as Langkawi and Kota Kinabalu via Kuala Lumpur.

The reinstatement “reflects a shared commitment to providing seamless travel experiences and strengthening their networks, in response to the growing demand for international connectivity,” the statement said.

Codesharing is an agreement that allows two competing airlines to market and sell seats on the same aircraft, allowing them to share flights and fill up their planes.

“Passengers will enjoy enhanced travel convenience, optimised flight schedules, and minimised layover times, ensuring more seamless connections for passengers,” said the two airlines.

Tickets for the new routes are now available to purchase via the airlines’ official website, sales offices, and via authorised agents, the statement added.
