KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 9): Auto parts manufacturer Betamek Bhd (KL:BETA) has named Shahrel Mohd Zain as its new chief operating officer (COO), effective immediately, according to the company bourse filing on Monday.
Shahrel, 56, will oversee operational strategies, with a focus on enhancing manufacturing efficiency, integrating technological innovations, and supporting the company’s growth in the fast-evolving automotive electronics sector, Betamek said.
“Shahrel brings [with him] over three decades of extensive experience in engineering, manufacturing, and operational leadership across prominent multinational corporations in the semiconductor and electronics industries,” the company added.
The company noted that Shahrel has over three decades of experience in engineering, manufacturing, and operational leadership across multinational corporations in the semiconductor and electronics industries including Carsem (M) Sdn Bhd, Osram Opto Semiconductor Malaysia, and Coherent Corporation USA.
“Shahrel's extensive background in engineering and operations, gained from working with leading semiconductor companies, aligns perfectly with Betamek’s vision to embrace innovation and drive operational excellence,” Betamek executive director Muhammad Fauzi Abd Ghani said.
“Shahrel’s expertise will be critical as we scale our manufacturing capabilities to meet the increasing demands of the automotive electronics market,” Fauzi added.
Shares in Betamek fell half a sen or 1.12% to close at 44 sen on Monday, giving the company a market capitalisation of RM195.8 million. Year-to-date, the stock has appreciated by 10%.
