KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 20): The Ministry of Transport may impose a fee on those who require a physical copy of their driving licence some time next year.
During the oral question-and-answer session at Dewan Rakyat on Wednesday, Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook said this is part of the ministry’s ongoing efforts to move towards digitalisation.
“We will announce an initiative for those who still want a physical licence. They may have to pay for the printing of the physical card,” Loke said.
However, Loke did not specify the exact amount of additional fee that would be imposed for printing the physical licence.
The government introduced digital driving licences and road-tax documents last year, which were rolled out via the MyJPJ application.
Loke added that MyJPJ has recorded over one million transactions for road tax and licence renewals since its launch two years ago. As at end-October this year, revenue collected through MyJPJ had reached nearly RM121 million, the minister said.
“The app has significantly improved efficiency for both the public and the department, and has resulted in savings in printing costs,” Loke said.
