DUBAI (Nov 19): Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA), through Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL), is set to collaborate with Mohamed Bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to establish an artificial intelligence (AI) faculty at UniKL.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the partnership would allow Malaysia to leverage the UAE’s experience in exploring this technological field.
He added that the collaboration is in line with MBZUAI’s standing as the world’s first AI university.
“What has been agreed upon is that the MBZUAI will collaborate with UniKL under MARA, and we have confirmed the creation of an AI faculty at UniKL.
“This is a new approach, as we need to learn AI from a university that has pioneered AI education systems,” he said at a dinner event with the Malaysian diaspora in the UAE on Monday (Nov 18).
The event was held in conjunction with his seven-day working visit to the country, which concluded on Tuesday.
In addition to UniKL, three other local universities will establish AI faculties, namely Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka and Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah.
Meanwhile, Ahmad Zahid noted that over 6,000 Malaysians residing in the UAE are highly regarded by the UAE government and its people.
He shared that the UAE government had praised Malaysians for their discipline and significant contributions to the country’s infrastructure development projects.
This recognition reflected the excellence of Malaysia’s education system, which has successfully produced skilled professionals and entrepreneurs, he said.
