KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 5): Proton Holdings Bhd said it achieved a 13.6% rise in sales in October, reaching 12,799 units (including exports) against the backdrop of total industry volume (TIV) exceeding 70,000 units for a fifth time this year.
In a statement, Proton announced that its year-to-date (YTD) sales has reached 125,557 units, keeping it on track for a sixth consecutive year of growth.
The company maintained its position as Malaysia’s second most popular automotive brand, with an estimated October market share of 18.1% and a YTD share of 18.9%.
According to the carmaker, total automotive sales recovered in October after a drop in the previous month.
“As OEMs flood the market with offers to boost year-end sales figures, TIV is estimated to have ended the month (October) at 70,668 units, the fifth time it has breached the 70,000-unit threshold this year and keeping it on pace to achieve a new record at the end of 2024,” said Proton.
Mirroring its dominance, the Proton Saga, with 6,112 units sold in October, has crossed YTD sales of 60,178, solidifying its position as the third-highest volume vehicle in the country.
Proton aims to sell 72,000 units of Proton Saga this year.
The Proton S70 reclaimed its spot as the best-selling C-segment sedan with 1,432 units sold in October, pushing its total to 16,200 units so far this year.
Meanwhile, the Proton X90 led the D-segment SUV category with 245 units in October, bringing its YTD total to 2,969 units.
Other models, such as the Proton Persona and Proton X70 continued to perform well within their segments, reinforcing Proton’s broad appeal and strong market presence.
Looking ahead, Proton Edar CEO Roslan Abdullah highlighted the company’s expansion into the electric vehicle (EV) market with the Proton e.MAS 7, set to launch next month.
