KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 1): Johor-based construction company Kimlun Corp Bhd (KL:KIMLUN) has secured a RM128.52 million contract to upgrade a portion of the Senai-Desaru Expressway, following a tender.
In a filing with Bursa Malaysia on Friday, Kimlun said its wholly owned Kimlun Sdn Bhd won the bid to upgrade the stretch of the highway from Jambatan Sg Johor (KM49.3) to Sg. Semenchu (KM58.70).
The construction work is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2027.
In an interview with The Edge Malaysia weekly in April 2024, Kimlun executive director Vennessa Yam Tai Fong said the company was eyeing to participate in highway expansion and upgrading projects, namely the Senai-Desaru Expressway and the PLUS North-South Expressway (Senai Utara-Sedenak segment).
“Ideally, we hope to be appointed as the main contractor. Obviously, many construction companies will be eyeing these two jobs, but we will try our best,” she said then.
This is not the first time the company is involved in the construction of the Senai-Desaru Expressway. In 2017, Mah Sing Group Bhd (KL:MAHSING) awarded a RM50 million contract to Kimlun to build a connecting road to the Tanjung Langsat-Cahaya Baru Toll Connecting Highway, which is part of the expressway.
Kimlun’s shares dipped 0.5 sen or 3.52% to close at RM1.37 on Friday, giving the group a market capitalisation of RM484.13 million.
