KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 8): Sime Darby Bhd (KL:SIME) is expanding its electric vehicle (EV) offerings as it is set to bring Denza, a premium sub-brand by BYD, into Malaysia.
Sime Darby's unit Sime Darby Auto Imports Sdn Bhd was appointed as the official importer for the Denza brand, while BYD Malaysia Sdn Bhd is the official distributor for Denza, according to BYD's statement.
Through Denza, BYD aims to provide Malaysians a more diverse, innovative and premium EV experience.
Sime Darby Motors managing director for assembly and strategic businesses division Dennis Ho said this is a momentous milestone for the group as it ventures into a new partnership with BYD Auto Industry and BYD Malaysia.
“Through this, we look forward to forge a stronger partnership with BYD, expanding our presence in the EV market while diversifying Sime Darby’s EV portfolio. We are committed to a pivotal role in accelerating the growth of EVs in Malaysia and we believe that bringing in Denza will be a significant part of this journey,” Ho said.
Sime Darby’s share price closed down two sen or 0.8% to RM2.49, giving the group a market capitalisation of RM16.97 billion.
