KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 26): MSR Green Energy Sdn Bhd (MSR-GE), an associate company of Seal Incorporated Bhd (KL:SEAL), has roped in Sungrow, a China-based solar photovoltaic (PV) inverter and energy storage system provider, to develop a RM645 million battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Sabah.

On September 13, MSR-GE announced that it had accepted a letter of award from Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) for the battery energy construction project.

The initiative involves the engineering, procurement and construction of a BESS with a capacity of 100 megawatts (MW) and an energy storage capacity of 400 megawatt-hours (MWh) in Lahad Datu, Sabah.

In a statement on Thursday, MSR-GE said it had signed an agreement with Sungrow, which will provide a comprehensive renewable energy solution, enhancing efficiency and sustainability while addressing the specific needs of the energy market.

"We look forward to merging MSR-GE's expertise in energy project delivery with Sungrow's specialised BESS experience to bring the world's most advanced and reliable grid-scale energy storage solutions to Malaysia. This will help Sabah tackle current power supply and grid stability challenges while ensuring the grid is prepared for future renewable energy plants," MSR-GE director Xavier Qiang stated.

Meanwhile, Sungrow's Malaysia country manager Cobe He said that the company will deploy a dedicated project team to support MSR-GE, ensuring efficient execution and smooth project progress.

Seal's shares closed up two sen or 2.53% to 81 sen on Thursday, valuing it at RM340.44 million.
