KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 23): OMS Group, a global leader in telecommunications infrastructure solutions, has allocated an investment of US$300 million (RM1.2 billion) to enhance its submarine cable systems and terrestrial infrastructure.

The move comes on the back of global investment firm KKR’s investment in the company last year and aims to support growing global demand for digital connectivity.

The newly injected capital will fuel OMS’ mission to expand its network across key regions, facilitating essential connectivity for businesses and organisations worldwide, it said in a statement on Monday.

This expansion, which includes ownership of submarine cable systems and backhaul infrastructure, is expected to streamline digital operations, particularly in Southeast Asia and bolster regional digital transformation efforts.

OMS group CEO Ronnie Lim emphasised the strategic importance of this investment as a direct response to the evolving demands of the global digital ecosystem.

“The explosive growth of data centres, cloud services and the high utilisation rates of existing cable systems has created an urgent need to expand our infrastructure.

“As part of this vision, we aim to be a one-stop shop for client needs across subsea, Cable Landing Stations (CLS), and terrestrial networks, starting with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) region,” he said, adding that it would eventually expand to the broader Asia-Pacific (Apac) market.

OMS’ investment is not only a direct response to the surging digital demand, but also a cornerstone of its broader ‘platformisation’ strategy.

Through this approach, the company aims to integrate both submarine and terrestrial infrastructure to offer comprehensive services to its clients.

The group’s recent projects include the development of Project MIST, an 8,100km intra-Asia subsea cable system, and its subsidiary LitUp Network’s work on four cable landing stations in Southeast Asia.

With this expansion, OMS is positioning itself at the forefront of the telecommunications infrastructure landscape, reinforcing its commitment to providing scalable and sustainable connectivity solutions.
