KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 30): Datasonic Group Bhd’s (KL:DSONIC) net profit for its first quarter ended June 30, 2024 (1QFY2025) climbed 41.96% to RM27.02 million from RM19.04 million a year earlier amid higher earnings from its operations.

Earnings per share rose to 0.97 sen from 0.67 sen.

The profit from its operations grew 35% year-on-year to RM36.88 million from RM27.37 million, mainly due to a decrease in operating costs.

Quarterly revenue — the bulk of which was derived from the supply of smart cards, passports and personalisation services — increased 7% to RM90.76 million from RM84.82 million.

About RM80.21 million of revenue was contributed by the supply of smart cards, passports and personalisation services, which was higher than the RM75.77 million earned a year ago, thanks to greater demand from customers for these products and services.

The group declared a first interim dividend of 0.75 sen per share, to be paid on Sept 27.

With healthy demand for passports, MyKad and i-Kad, Datasonic is looking forward to meeting customers' demand on time without any interruption in fulfilling “its integral role of the country's national security”.

“At the same time, we will continue to pursue new programmes and initiatives not only on our local frontier but also on a global scale, in line with our strategic goal of diversifying revenue streams.

“On the i-Kad, the delivery is expected to continue picking up healthily as Datasonic will be supporting the ePass renewals not only on new applications. Separately, our team is looking forward to deploying more autogates to our customers with our continued commitment, delivery and performance,” the group said.

Shares of Datasonic closed 1.5 sen or 3.26% lower at 44.5 sen on Thursday, valuing the group at RM1.32 billion.
