KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 26): Former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin is expected to be charged with sedition on Tuesday in Kelantan following his remarks at the recently concluded Nenggiri by-election.

Muhyiddin, who is also the chairman of Perikatan Nasional coalition, will be charged at the Gua Musang Sessions Court, according to a person familiar with the matter.

"Yes, he will be charged tomorrow," the source said on condition of anonymity.

Muhyiddin, the president of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia and Pagoh Member of Parliament, has been under investigation following the remarks made during the Nenggiri by-election campaign.

If charged, Muhyiddin would be the third politician from the Opposition to be prosecuted under the Sedition Act after Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor and Bersatu information chief Datuk Razali Idris.

The investigation into Muhyiddin’s speech was conducted under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act, Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act and Section 504 of the Penal Code, according to Bernama.

Numerous police reports have been lodged over his speech recorded on video and posted online which allegedly questioned the credibility of the Sultan of Pahang when he was the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong over the appointment of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as prime minister.

Pahang Crown Prince Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah has also asked the police to probe and take decisive action against Muhyiddin, who the regent said had deliberately "belittled and disputed" the duties and role of the Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah during his reign.
