KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 20): The Sustainable Energy Development Authority (Seda) will allocate up to 190 megawatt (MW) feed-in tariff (FiT) quota for biogas, biomass, and mini-hydro development through an e-bidding process, according to Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
Fadillah, who is also the energy transition and water transformation minister, said this allocation is to promote the deployment of non-solar renewable energy (RE) resources.
“This [is] to diversify our power generation sources while ensuring energy system security and reliability — and to identify potential areas for bioenergy development,” Fadillah said in his speech at the sixth International Sustainable Energy Summit (ISES) 2024 on Tuesday.
During a press conference, Fadillah explained that the FiT quota will go through an open tender, “similar to large-scale solar (LSS)”.
Meanwhile, the timeline and the details for the e-bidding will be announced soon, according to Seda.
Seda had previously paused the new FiT awards — the last being 36.5MW in 2023 comprising 21 biogas projects and one for biomass.
Over the last three years, Seda has awarded a total of 555MW FiT quota across the three non-conventional RE resources.
