GUA MUSANG (Aug 15): With less than 48 hours remaining, the Barisan Nasional (BN) machinery has been reminded to continue working until the campaign period for the Nenggiri state by-election ends at 11.59pm on Friday.
Umno supreme council member Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said every voter in the constituency should always be assisted and cared for, including on polling day this Saturday, by helping those who need assistance to go to the polling stations.
“I have reminded the BN machinery that our task is not finished at 2pm in the Orang Asli villages and 6pm at the polling centres this Saturday.
“Even though the campaign cannot continue after 11.59pm [Friday night], we can campaign in other ways, such as transporting voters who do not have vehicles on polling day. This is done by all parties and is permitted,” he said.
He told this to reporters after reviewing the progress of physical work on state road slope repairs at Section 5.8, which has reached 75% near Kampung Limau Kasturi, here on Thursday.
Commenting further on the campaign atmosphere in Nenggiri, Ahmad, who is also deputy works minister, expressed gratitude that no incidents or unwanted situations have occurred between the two contesting parties so far.
“Alhamdulillah, everything [the campaign] has proceeded peacefully, which shows the maturity of democracy in this country. Otherwise, there would have been unwanted incidents.
“In my experience participating in by-election campaigns since the 1990s, the Nenggiri by-election is among the most harmonious,” he said.
The by-election sees a straight fight between Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Mohd Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani, also known as Awie, representing the unity government, and PAS candidate Mohd Rizwadi Ismail, representing Perikatan Nasional (PN).
It was called following a casual vacancy of the seat announced by Kelantan State Assembly Speaker Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah on June 19, after the incumbent Mohd Azizi Abu Naim ceased to be a member of Bersatu on June 13.
