KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 12): Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) on  Monday introduced a supplier support programme (PSSP) to encourage Malaysia’s oil and gas services and equipment (OGSE) suppliers to adopt sustainability principles.

The programme, launched in collaboration with the Joint Committee for Climate Change (JC3) greening value chain programme, Bursa Malaysia, and the UN Global Compact Network Malaysia & Brunei, aims to provide suppliers with tools, training, and financing to enhance their sustainability practices, in alignment with the National Energy Transition Roadmap.

In a statement, Petronas executive vice president and group chief financial officer Liza Mustapha acknowledged the challenges that OGSE suppliers, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), face in implementing sustainability practices essential for the energy transition.

"We recognise that OGSE suppliers, especially SMEs, face resource constraints in implementing sustainability practices, which are crucial for enabling the energy transition. We are rallying together with our suppliers in support of a just transition that ensures no one is left behind," she said.

As the anchor of the greening value chain programme, Petronas said it will offer OGSE suppliers environmental, social, and governance (ESG) training and access to a centralised sustainability intelligence platform for managing and reporting carbon emissions.

Additionally, suppliers will have access to financing options, including Bank Negara Malaysia’s low carbon transition facility and high tech and green facility, to support their transition efforts, said Petronas.
