KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 12): Pekat Group Bhd (KL:PEKAT) said on Monday it had been awarded a contract worth RM21.78 million to install earthing and lightning protection for a data centre facility from Gamuda Engineering Sdn Bhd.
The job involves performing subcontract works in connection to construction and completion, including testing and commissioning of earthing and lightning protection systems, Pekat Group said in an exchange filing. The contract was awarded to its wholly owned subsidiary Pekat E & LP Sdn Bhd (PELP).
The subcontract is expected to be completed by Sept 30, 2025, while the main contract’s “substantial completion” would be by Feb 27, 2026, Pekat noted.
The location and work description suggest that the job is related to the hyperscale data centre in the Elmina Business Park. In May, Gamuda Bhd (KL:GAMUDA) said it had won the data centre construction project from Sime Darby Property Bhd (KL:SIMEPROP) for a total of RM1.74 billion.
PELP is required to place a performance bond of 10%, which amounts to RM2.18 million, the company said.
Pekat expects the job to contribute to its earnings for the financial year ending Dec 31, 2024 and onwards, until the completion of the contract.
Earlier this month, Pekat said it is buying local switchgear supplier Apex Power Industry Sdn Bhd for RM96 million to align with its long-term business growth strategy to establish its presence in the power distribution equipment business sector.
At Monday's noon close, Pekat's share price was down 1.5 sen or 1.6% to 94.5 sen, giving it a market capitalisation of RM609.5 million.
