KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 1): Eco World Development Group Bhd (EcoWorld Malaysia) (KL:ECOWLD) launched its latest industrial park series, QUANTUM, at ZEPP Kuala Lumpur in Bukit Bintang City Centre, Kuala Lumpur on Thursday.

“QUANTUM is our business park redesigned and redefined,” said EcoWorld Malaysia deputy CEO Liew Tian Xiong at the launch event.

Tian Xiong explained that QUANTUM is designed to cater to companies specialising in AI (artificial intelligence), cloud computing, high-tech manufacturing and research and development, differentiating QUANTUM from EcoWorld Malaysia’s existing business parks, which cater to conventional manufacturers.

The first business park to represent the developer's new QUANTUM concept is its Eco Business Park VI in Kulai, Johor, which will be rebranded and renamed as QUANTUM Edge.

According to Tian Xiong, the 403-acre QUANTUM Edge business park is poised to be among the largest digital and high-tech hubs by a private developer in Malaysia and it will be anchored by Microsoft Payments (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, which has purchased 123 acres of land in June 2024 worth RM402.3 million within the park.

EcoWorld Malaysia president and chief executive officer (CEO) Datuk Chang Khim Wah told The Edge that following the land acquisition for Eco Business Park VI, which was completed in January 2024, the company has been "exploring the idea of creating a different type of business park to cater to digital, high tech and high-value added sectors".

“With Microsoft confirmed as an anchor for the park, we then decided to dedicate the entire park as our first QUANTUM business park. The launch of QUANTUM as a new revenue pillar for EcoWorld [Malaysia] signifies our commitment and confidence that this segment of the market will grow strongly going forward to take our business to greater heights,” Chang added.

In addition to QUANTUM, which is EcoWorld Malaysia's fifth revenue pillar, its other revenue pillars are Eco Townships (landed homes), Eco Rise (high-rise), Eco Hubs (strata offices and retail spaces) and Eco Business Parks (industrial parks).

The developer's land banking efforts will now also focus on the acquisition of suitable new sites for QUANTUM developments in addition to its other revenue pillars, said Tian Xiong during his presentation.

Officiating the launch, Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Liew Chin Tong said, “We are now entering a phase where we can transform land into [technology-based offerings]. The world is getting more complicated but it also presents opportunities for Malaysia to be a potential technology hub. I congratulate EcoWorld for trying new things and trying to elevate Malaysia to the next level,” he added.
