KUALA LUMPUR (July 19): Sunway Construction Group Bhd (KL:SUNCON), which in March won a RM747.8 million contract from a US-based multinational technology corporation for the construction of a data centre in Selangor, on Friday announced the award of a sub-contract relating to the project worth RM417.8 million.

The sub-contract for the construction of the project's mechanical and electrical system was awarded to Sunway Engie DC Sdn Bhd, a joint venture company between Sunway Engineering Sdn Bhd (70% stake) and Engie Services Malaysia Sdn Bhd (30% stake).

Sunway Engineering is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sunway Construction Sdn Bhd, which is in turn an indirect wholly-owned subsidiary of SunCon.

The sub-contract work is expected to be completed by the second quarter of 2027, said SunCon in a bourse filing.

The group said it expects the sub-contract to contribute positively to its earnings from the financial year ending Dec 31, 2024 onwards.

On March 21, SunCon said it had entered into a project service request with the US-based company for the construction project. However, it did not provide further details on the company.

Shares in SunCon closed seven sen or 1.78% lower to RM5.02 on Friday, valuing the group at RM6.47 billion.
