SINGAPORE (July 11): The 25th Joint Meeting of the Malaysia-Singapore Business Council (MSBC) discussed on Thursday, on advancing mutual interests and exploring new opportunities through the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ).

Co-chaired by YCH Group executive chairman Dr Robert Yap and Tan Sri Dr Nik Norzrul Thani N Hassan Thani of Zaid Ibrahim & Co, the council also expressed support for the JS-SEZ and underscored its dedication to enhancing bilateral economic ties.

Yap said the JS-SEZ will not only strengthen collaboration and drive sustainable growth between Malaysia and Singapore, but he is also confident that it will boost regional competitiveness, create high-quality jobs, and enhance innovation. “By leveraging our combined strengths and fostering cross-border synergies, we will build a resilient economic landscape benefitting businesses and communities, paving the way for a prosperous and interconnected future,” he said in a statement following the meeting at the SBF Centre here.

Nik Norzrul Thani said that the MSBC reiterates its strong support for the JS-SEZ as a driver of economic development and regional cooperation. “We believe in the transformative impact of this initiative and are dedicated to fostering strong economic collaboration between Malaysia and Singapore,” he added.

Highlights of the discussions included strategic deliberations on promoting sustainable growth; harnessing technological advancements, particularly in cross-border transactions to enhance business operations; and expanding market access for Malaysian and Singaporean companies. The meeting also addressed shared challenges in the global landscape and engaged in constructive dialogue aimed at deepening partnerships and reinforcing the longstanding business relations between both countries.

The MSBC, established in July 2004 to promote business and investment activities between Singapore and Malaysia, continues to serve as a useful collaboration platform for the business communities of both countries, to initiate mutually beneficial projects and explore joint opportunities.
