KUALA LUMPUR (July 11): The share subscription agreement (SSA) process with Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB), ahead of Malaysia's transition to a dual wholesale network (DWN) model, is going smoothly, even though Telekom Malaysia Bhd (KL:TM) has yet to finalise the agreement, according to Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo.

“If there are any new developments or decisions, we will hold a press conference and announce them," the minister said in response to questions about whether TM had been given a deadline to finalise the SSA with Minister of Finance Inc (MOF Inc) and DNB.

TM needs to finalise the SSA with MOF Inc and DNB on or before Aug 21.

Previously, four mobile network operators (MNOs) have announced the completion of their SSAs with DNB and MOF Inc.

The parties, namely YTL Power International Bhd (KL:YTLPOWR), CelcomDigi Bhd (KL:CDB), Maxis Bhd (KL:MAXIS) and U Mobile Sdn Bhd, had signed conditional SSAs on Dec 1, 2023 to pave the way for the country's transition to the DWN model for 5G.

Commenting further on the MNO to develop the second 5G network, Gobind expressed hope that a decision could be reached soon.

"This is about who will set up the second 5G network, and how it will be implemented, and only then we can discuss the question of time limits and so on," he added.
