THE Edge Media Group, with the support of CIMB Group Holdings Bhd, is thrilled to announce the return of The Edge Malaysia Centurion Club Corporate Awards, the series of awards that recognises top-performing public-listed companies in the country with a market capitalisation under RM1 billion, on July 22.

This year marks the fourth iteration of The Edge Malaysia Centurion Club Corporate Awards, which were launched in 2019 and took a two-year hiatus in 2020-2021 during the Covid-19 pandemic. It is the second series of awards under The Edge Malaysia’s banner that spotlights the best among Corporate Malaysia, based on measurable financial metrics, after The Edge Billion Ringgit Club Awards.

“I’m very happy to announce that we are going to be hosting The Edge Malaysia Centurion Club Corporate Awards 2024 and once again turn the spotlight on companies below RM1 billion in market value on Bursa Malaysia that are often overlooked but are making serious waves on their own. It has been a delight each year as we uncover many hidden gems in various sectors of the economy, and I look forward to the unveiling of the best performers again,” says The Edge Media Group publisher and group CEO Datuk Ho Kay Tat.

“I would also like to express my appreciation to CIMB, which has been supporting this event right from the get-go. Their steadfast belief in what we do and their unwavering support and commitment to recognising and empowering smaller businesses are inspiring.”

CIMB group CEO Novan Amirudin says the banking group is pleased to return as a key sponsor of the event that recognises the achievements of small and medium enterprises (SMEs), which are a cornerstone of the economy and a key focus of CIMB as it strives to play a role to uplift communities throughout Asean. The group, he says, salutes the successes of businesses that have demonstrated leadership through outstanding performance in surmounting challenges and leveraging opportunities in the marketplace.

“As a key player in the Malaysian and regional financial markets, we take pride in playing our role as partners of such companies to enable financial strength and stimulate business growth and innovation, while providing regional and global connectivity through partnerships and trade links.

“The winning companies, which come from across the widest range of industries and sectors, from consumer to industrial products and services, from financial services to technology, are shining examples that represent Malaysia’s growth story. Through The Edge Malaysia Centurion Club Corporate Awards, we celebrate their successes as both organisations to be emulated and strong drivers of the economy,” says Novan.

The awards are also in line with CIMB’s brand proposition, “Moving Forward with You”, which underlines the group’s aim to be the partner of choice in helping its customers progress in the pursuit of their ambitions, he says. “We believe the awards will serve as benchmarks in the market for businesses as they strive to advance to the next level.”

Companies that qualify for inclusion in the Centurion Club must be listed on Bursa Malaysia as at end-March of the current calendar year, must not be suspended or on Bursa Malaysia’s watch list, and must not be delisted before the date of the awards. They must also have a market capitalisation of no less than RM100 million but no more than RM1 billion.

As at March 31, there were 514 Centurion Club members, one of which will take home the grand award of Centurion of the Year at The Edge Malaysia Centurion Club Corporate Awards 2024 gala dinner and awards ceremony on July 22.

The event will also honour companies across 12 sectors for achieving: (i) The Highest Growth in Profit After Tax (PAT) over Three Years; (ii) The Highest Returns to Shareholders over Three Years; and (iii) The Highest Return on Equity (ROE) over Three Years. The 12 sectors are: construction; consumer products and services; energy; financial services; healthcare; industrial products and services; plantation; property; real estate investment trust; technology; telecommunications, media and utilities; and transport and logistics.

The Centurion of the Year will be determined by evaluating companies’ overall weighted scores in terms of: returns to shareholders over three years (30% weightage); growth in PAT over three years (40%); and ROE over three years (30%).

Those eligible to be recognised for achieving the highest ROE and PAT must be profitable for every financial year of the evaluation period. The evaluation period for this year’s award is from 2020 to 2023.

Financial data used to determine the member companies of The Edge Malaysia Centurion Club and the winners of the awards is provided by Asia Analytica Data Sdn Bhd (formerly The Edge Markets Sdn Bhd), and the results are audited by Deloitte Malaysia.

The full list of Centurion Club members and the winners of the awards will be published in a special pullout after the event.
