KUALA LUMPUR (July 9): IJM Land Bhd, the property arm of construction giant IJM Corp Bhd (KL:IJM), said on Tuesday it had signed a pact with Progressture Power Sdn Bhd to jointly explore deployment of up to 40 megawatt (MW) in its future developments.

The memorandum of understanding covers the pre-installation of solar rooftop systems with a capacity of 25MW for residential developments, IJM Land said in a statement. The partnership also includes the development of a 15MW floating solar farm spanning 37.5 acres (15.2 hectares) at IJM Rimbayu, it said.

“This intersection of real estate and renewable energy (RE) allows us to tap into new growth areas in the property industry,” said Datuk Wong Tuck Wai, the chief executive officer of IJM Land.

As part of the collaboration, IJM Land and Progressture will be utilising the energy-as-a-service approach for end-to-end management of energy assets and services for homeowners in IJM Land’s townships.

Progressture provides turnkey solutions for solar system ownership, from financing and consultation to engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, maintenance, and monitoring. The company’s portfolio includes a 1.67MW project in Jitra, Kedah, and 1.16MW in Perai, Penang.

The partnership is set to be operationalised in line with the implementation of third-party access for the nation’s electricity supply industry, which will enable other parties such as independent power producers to supply energy using Tenaga Nasional Bhd’s (KL:TENAGA) transmission lines.

Cumulatively, IJM said its solar deployment is projected to reduce 40,997 tonnes of carbon dioxide each year, and over one million tonnes in the next 25 years.

“Our current efforts validate solar as a viable source of RE, and to this effect, the solar deployment as a core component of our pilot project,” said Datuk Tony Ling, the chief operating officer of IJM Land. “We aim to maximise the use of IJM Land’s residential rooftop space and lake surface area in addressing solar adoption barriers.”
