KUALA LUMPUR (June 21): Batik Air said on Friday it is suspending its services to and from Auckland, New Zealand, via Perth in Australia effective July 19, 2024.

The decision was due to “operational requirements,” the airline said without elaborating. However, Batik Air will be reinstating operations to Auckland with direct flights from Kuala Lumpur in December 2024, subject to regulatory approvals, it noted.

The airline remains “confident that these strategic adjustments will strengthen its operational framework,” said Batik Air chief executive officer Datuk Chandran Rama Muthy.

“The forthcoming replacement with a direct service will strengthen the connectivity and opportunities for travellers across the Batik Air network and enhance travel experience of our passengers,” Chandran said. The revised plan offers “better connectivity to our markets,” he added.

The airline stressed that it is committed to the New Zealand market, citing a vibrant tourism sector, robust economy and strong cultural ties to the Asia-Pacific country. New Zealand is “a key market for Batik Air,” it said.

Batik Air also said it will provide a full refund for passengers holding reservations for flights to and from Auckland affected by the temporary suspension.
