KUALA LUMPUR (June 20): TAS Offshore Bhd (KL:TAS) said it has entered into a deal to buy 14.37 hectares of land in Sarawak for RM12 million in cash to expand its shipyard business.
The land is expected to increase its shipyard capacity and contribute positively towards the group’s long-term growth in terms of profitability and net assets, said the shipbuilder in a bourse filing on Thursday.
“The land is situated on the true right bank of Batang Rajang, Tanjung Manis and is suitable to be utilised as a shipyard,” it added.
TAS Offshore said its unit Pantas Marine Sdn Bhd is buying the land from wood products manufacturer Saragreen Sdn Bhd. Pantas Marine is mainly involved in ship repairing and the provision of vessel chartering services.
The land acquisition, to be paid for through its internally generated fund and loan facilities, is expected to be completed by the third quarter of this year.
TAS Offshore’s share price closed down one sen or 1.3% to 78 sen on Thursday, bringing the group’s market capitalisation to RM140 million. Year-to-date, the stock has risen 86%.
