KUALA LUMPUR (June 14): Genting Malaysia Bhd (KL:GENM) said a fire broke out on Friday at Resorts World Genting, the integrated resort in Genting Highlands.
“We wish to inform that we are responding to a fire which has broken out at about 4.30pm this evening at SkyAvenue, Resorts World Genting.
“All other areas at the resort are not affected. Evacuation was carried out immediately to ensure members of the public were out of harm’s way,” GENM said on Resorts World Genting’s website.
GENM said its fire units responded promptly to extinguish the fire.
“We continue to monitor the situation and will provide updates as the situation progresses,” it added.
Photos and videos shared online showed the fire spreading through parts of a building at Genting SkyWorlds outdoor theme park.
The videos showed the fire near the third floor of the bar street, with thick smoke billowing from a building. Genting’s security personnel blew whistles to warn the crowd and evacuate them.
The videos, believed to be taken by people indoors or riding the cable cars, also showed a building near Genting SkyWorlds theme park on fire, with bright flames and thick black smoke filling the sky.
There have been no reports of casualties so far.
