SHAH ALAM (May 24): After being charged on Thursday with two counts of receiving a total of RM350,000 in bribes, the former political secretary of ex-home minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin was brought to court to face another charge of soliciting the same amount from Nexuscorp Group Sdn Bhd.

Sayed Amir Muzzakkir Al Sayed Mohammad, 42, claimed trial before Sessions Court judge Awang Kerisnada Awang Mahmud to soliciting RM350,000 from Nexuscorp Group managing director Wan Azhar Mohamed Yusof in December 2020 as an inducement for the company to obtain a tender in supplying infrastructure, communications system and software to the police.

Sayed Amir Muzzakkir was charged with soliciting the sum from Wan Azhar at the company's premises at the Section 7 industrial site here.

He was charged under Section 16 (a) (A) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act, which is punishable under Section 24 of the same act. If convicted, he stands to face up to 20 years’ jail and a fine of up to five times the amount of bribes received.

He was charged under the same section then.

Sayed Amir was represented by counsel Md Yunos Sharif while deputy public prosecutors Zander Lim Wai Keong and Fatin Farhana Ismail appeared for the prosecution.

Awang Kerisnada allowed the RM60,000 bail set by the KL Sessions Court be applied for this case here and ordered the accused to surrender his passport.

He also allowed the prosecution's application to transfer the case to the KL Sessions Court, with July 12 fixed for case management.
