KUALA LUMPUR (May 21): IHH Healthcare Bhd (KL:IHH) said on Tuesday that Tan Sri Mohammed Azlan Hashim will retire as the group’s independent and non-executive chairman at the conclusion of its next annual general meeting (AGM) scheduled on May 28.

According to IHH Healthcare’s filing with Bursa Malaysia, Mohammed Azlan has expressed his intention not to seek re-election. At press time, IHH Healthcare has not yet announced his successor.

“I am deeply grateful to have had the opportunity to serve IHH Healthcare, initially as deputy chairman and then as chairman over the last 13 years. Despite various macroeconomic challenges over the past few years, IHH has reinforced its position as a global healthcare leader,” Mohammed Azlan said in a statement on Tuesday.

“It has strengthened governance, further embedded sustainability across the business, while delivering financial growth, raising the bar on clinical and care excellence, and creating value for all its stakeholders. With a refreshed management team and continued stewardship from the experienced board of directors, I am confident that IHH can reach even greater heights,” he added.

Mohammed Azlan, 67, was appointed to IHH Healthcare’s board as deputy chairman in March 2011.

In January 2018, he was redesignated as non-independent non-executive chairman. By November the same year, Mohammed Azlan became the group’s independent non-executive chairman after ceasing to be a nominee director of Khazanah Nasional Bhd.

Additionally, he has served as the chairman of the investment panel of the Employees Provident Fund since September 2020.

Shares of IHH Healthcare closed four sen or 0.63% lower at RM6.27 on Tuesday, giving the group a market capitalisation of RM55.22 billion.
