KUALA LUMPUR (May 18): Maybank and English Premier League club Manchester United have launched their latest co-branded credit card in Indonesia.

In 2023, Maybank and Manchester United announced the extension of their 13-year partnership into Indonesia — adding a fourth Asean country to their existing co-branded products available to customers in Malaysia, Singapore, and the Philippines.

In a statement on Saturday, the bank and the club said the Maybank Indonesia credit card will feature an image of United’s iconic home, Old Trafford, and provide the millions of Indonesian Manchester United fans with exclusive rewards, offers and discounts on United-related products.

Maybank Indonesia acting president director and director of community financial services Steffano Ridwan said the Maybank Manchester United Credit Card is one of the bank’s mass lines of credit cards alongside its existing credit card range and will become a novelty to football aficionados of Manchester United in a country known to have high fan base, Indonesia.

“The launch of the Maybank Manchester United Credit Card is one of the bank's strategies to expand its customer base of mass segments as well as potential customers, especially the Manchester United fans.

“On the other hand, the launch of credit cards is also in line with the mission, ‘Humanising Financial Services’,” he said.

Maybank currently has over 14 million credit cards, charge cards, and debit cards in circulation in Malaysia.

The bank commands over 20% of the market share for credit and charge cards in the country and over 28% for debit cards.

Ridwan said this latest collaboration will play a pivotal role in enhancing Maybank’s profile in Indonesia and supporting the growth of both its credit and debit card range through innovative engagement with potential and existing customers.

Meanwhile, Manchester United chief executive officer of alliances and partnerships Victoria Timpson said that for more than a decade, the partnership has offered fans throughout Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines first-class financial products from a trusted banking group and it is delighted to further strengthen its footprint in Asia with the expansion into Indonesia.
