KUALA LUMPUR (May 8): The FBM KLCI was little changed in early trade on Wednesday although it held firm above the 1,600-point level.

At 9.05am, the benchmark index added 0.17% or 2.67 points to 1,608.35.

Among the leading movers were Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd (KL:PCHEM), YTL Corp Bhd (KL:YTL), Axiata Group Bhd (KL:AXIATA), YTL Power International Bhd (KL:YTLPWR), CelcomDigi Bhd (KL:CDB) and Kuala Lumpur Kepong Bhd (KL:KLK).

The laggards included IOI Corp Bhd (KL:IOICORP), Tenaga Nasional Bhd (KL:TENAGA), Public Bank Bhd (KL:PBBANK), AMMB Holdings Bhd (KL:AMBANK), Sime Darby Bhd (KL:SIME) and PPB Group Bhd (KL:PPB).

Indices on Bursa Malaysia were mostly marginally higher, with the FBM Syariah up 0.22%, followed by FBMEmas (up 0.12%) and FBM70 (up 0.07%).

In a market commentary on Wednesday, Rakuten Trade said the FBM KLCI finally broke the 1,600 barrier on Tuesday, underpinned by continuous accumulation in blue chips by foreign funds.

“We believe the index to hover between the 1,600-1,615 range today (Wednesday) with the 1,600 as the immediate psychological support,” it said.
