KUALA LUMPUR (March 26): Bursa Malaysia has appointed Redza Goh Aik Meng and Sharifatu Laila Syed Ali as independent non-executive directors, effective Wednesday.

In a statement on Tuesday, the exchange said Redza brought to the board 39 years of experience in information technology and digitalisation, while Sharifatu is rejoining the board with her experience in investment management and capital markets.

Redza previously served as the executive director of Dialog Group Bhd's subsidiary Infodasia Sdn Bhd, and as the vice president and group chief information officer at Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas), where he led significant digital and information technology initiatives, said Bursa.

Redza was also previously the country managing director of Accenture Malaysia and managing director of Accenture Greater China.

At present, he does not hold any directorships in public companies and listed issuers.

Meanwhile, Sharifatu currently serves as an independent non-executive director of YTL Corporation Bhd.

She has held key positions in notable Malaysian financial institutions, including at Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB), the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) and Lembaga Tabung Haji, said Bursa.

Sharifatu was also previously the managing director of ValueCap Sdn Bhd, an investment holding company equally owned by Khazanah Nasional Bhd, Retirement Fund (Inc) (KWAP) and PNB.

She is returning to Bursa after resigning as the exchange's public interest director and independent non-executive director in August 2023 “to pursue other interests”.

Bursa chairman Tan Sri Abdul Wahid Omar said Goh’s experience in IT and digital transformation will help the exchange as it deepens efforts to augment customer experience and achieve efficiencies through further digitalisation and new technologies.

He added that Sharifatu’s return will also enrich the board with her vast experience in investment management and capital markets.

Wahid also expressed his gratitude to Chong Chye Neo, who is retiring after serving as a director of Bursa for more than five years since December 2018.
