KUALA LUMPUR (March 21): The passing of the assemblywoman of Kuala Kubu Baharu, Lee Kee Hiong on Thursday, was confirmed by Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

Lee has been the state constituency’s representative since 2013.

“Her departure is a great loss to many parties and for sure felt especially by the residents of Kuala Kubu Bharu, who have been represented for a long time and assisted by Lee since before she became a representative.

“On behalf of the Selangor state Unity Government, I offer my condolences to the family of the late Mrs Lee Kee Hiong, as well as all friends and members in the Democratic Action Party (DAP). May they be given the strength to overcome this challenging moment,” Amirudin said.

Sin Chew Daily reported that Lee, 58, died at 10am after a battle with cancer.

During last year’s Selangor state elections, Lee won her seat with a 4,119-vote majority, after competing against Gerakan’s Teoh Kien Hong.

She first won her seat in 2013, after defeating MCA’s Ooi Hui Wen with a 1,702-vote majority, and defended it in 2018, with a 7,134-vote majority over MCA’s Wong Koon Mun.
