KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 20): Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is currently still being treated at the National Heart Institute (IJN) and is in the process of recovering from an infection.

An aide to the former prime minister provided an update on the condition of the hospitalised Mahathir.

“I can't say when he will be discharged, until and unless the IJN is satisfied with his level of recovery,” he said.

Last week, Mahathir was warded at IJN for an unspecified infection.

“Tun (Mahathir) is currently receiving treatment for infection at IJN, followed by a subsequent rest period for optimal recovery,” the spokesperson said in a brief update last Tuesday (Feb 13).

Mahathir’s health troubles were revealed during proceedings for his civil defamation suit against Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi on Feb 13, which were deferred due to Mahathir’s absence.

Mahathir’s lawyer Mior Nor Haidir Suhaimi informed the court that his client was warded at IJN and had been advised to be on medical leave.
