KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 2): Renewable energy outfit Jentayu Sustainables Bhd has appointed the former deputy state secretary of Sabah, Datuk Hajah Masnah Matsalleh, as its independent non-executive director, effective Jan 18.

According to Jentayu, Masnah spent 39 years in the public sector.

“She served in various senior capacities including as head assistant secretary, Sabah State Ministry of Infrastructure Development, deputy under secretary of the Budget Division, Sabah State Ministry of Finance, director of Sabah State Women’s Affairs Department, permanent secretary of Sabah State Ministry of Local Government & Housing and as deputy state secretary (administration) prior to her retirement on Dec 31, 2021,” the company said in a statement on Friday.

Masnah is presently also a non-independent director of Saham Sabah Bhd and Borneo Samudera Sdn Bhd.

“We are delighted to have an individual of such vast experience and talent, and we greatly look forward to all her future contributions to Jentayu. We are especially excited to have her contribute insights gleamed from her vast amount of experience in the civil service,” the company added.

In recent weeks, Jentayu was among the the small cap stocks that came under heavy selling pressures due to margin calls.

In a mere couple of days, the counter fell from RM1.30 on Jan 16 to a low of 50 sen on Jan 19.

It has since regained some of its footing, closing at 73 sen on Friday, three sen or 4.29% higher than the previous, valuing the company at RM320.43 million.

But year to date, the counter is down 43.41%.
