KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 27): Former finance minister Tun Daim Zainuddin says he will be charged at the Sessions Court next Monday (Jan 29).

This came after the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) recorded his statement on Friday.

Daim said in a statement through his lawyers that he would be facing a similar charge as his wife Toh Puan Na'imah Abdul Khalid, namely purportedly an offence of not abiding by a notice to declare his assets.

"So be it. I look forward to my day in court," the 85-year-old former member of Parliament said.

Prior to this, Daim has been released from hospital on Thursday.

Na'imah was charged on Tuesday where she claimed trial to not abiding by the MACC notice to declare 12 of her purported assets.

She was charged under Section 36(2) of the MACC Act, a section her husband is likely to face.

The former minister had been probed since February last year based on information from the Pandora Papers — a leak of documents in 2021 exposing hidden wealth and tax avoidance of the past and present leaders across the globe.

Following that, his and his family members’ bank accounts had been frozen since July last year.

Last month, the 60-storey Ilham Tower, which is owned by his family, was seized by the authorities.

Following that, Daim filed a judicial review to seek permission to have those assets released and to halt MACC investigations.
