KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 30): Community Communications Department (J-KOM) Deputy Director General Datuk Ismail Yusop has alleged that there is a new plot aimed at bringing down Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the unity government.

In an interview with Berita Harian, Ismail claimed that the plan was hatched by Perikatan Nasional (PN) leaders, including certain representatives from the government — namely leaders of parties who were said to be uneasy with Anwar's leadership — during a recent vacation in Dubai.

Ismail further alleged that the get-together was held to negotiate and delegate certain tasks to "officers" responsible for identifying members of Parliament who are likely to shift allegiances to the opposition in return for bribes, to set up a back door government.

Besides PN leaders, those involved included influential political veterans with the title of “Tun” who were in league with the opposition and were using "foreign sources" to overthrow the unity government.

Ismail also claimed that a former prime minister and former finance minister as well as their associates were involved in the planning, which includes the use of local and foreign sources.

"It is said that there are spokespersons with access to the opposition leadership roaming the country, including in Sabah and Sarawak, to convince that in early 2024, the Madani government will collapse, complete with a date and dateline," Ismail was quoted as saying.

According to him, Anwar has a strong basis to act affirmatively.

"PMX [Anwar] should also immediately order the Home Ministry, Inspector-General of Police and the national security forces to investigate the individuals directly involved.

"This includes (hauling those who) are related to this evil attempt (Dubai Move) to be interrogated or have their statements taken," he said.
