KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 19): Law firm Lim Chee Wee Partnership (LCWP) has welcomed English barrister and King's Counsel Ng Jern-Fei to their firm as a Malaysian registered foreign lawyer.

According to a statement released by LCWP, Ng will be bringing his 20 years of international arbitration (IA) experience and expertise to LCWP from Jan 2, 2024.

With the addition of Ng to its team, LCWP will be the only law firm in Malaysia who has a King’s Counsel as a registered foreign lawyer within its ranks, which is made even more special by the fact that he is a Malaysian and grew up in the country.

“We are delighted to welcome Ng onboard as a registered foreign lawyer, to complement and add specialist advocacy firepower to our IA practice. He made Malaysia proud when he became one of the youngest silks to be appointed in England and Wales, and is now the first and only King’s Counsel to be affiliated with a Malaysian practice,” said LCWP senior partner Datuk Lim Chee Wee.

Meanwhile, LCWP managing partner Lee Shih said: "He has been instructed in some 350 international arbitrations as counsel over the past 20 years. This and his many years of experience practising English law will be immensely valuable to our clients.”

Apart from being admitted as an advocate and solicitor in Singapore, Ng has a multi-jurisdictional practice which also includes England, Hong Kong, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands and now Malaysia.

He will continue to maintain his UK practice as a member of 7BR Barristers’ Chambers in London, his Singapore practice with Duxton Hill Chambers, and will continue to be an arbitrator member of Temple Chambers in Hong Kong.

“I am looking forward to being part of LCWP, one of three Malaysian firms listed in the Global Arbitration Review’s GAR 100 leading international arbitration firms. I am confident that my mutually complementary affiliations in four different jurisdictions will serve to reinforce LCWP’s offerings in this space,” said Ng.

LCWP and Ng have had experience teaming up on a number of cross-border litigation and international arbitration cases over the past 15 years, including a US$40 million (RM186.8 million) commodities arbitration seated in London, a US$50 million multi-jurisdictional civil fraud litigation in London, a US$4 million oil supply dispute heard in Singapore, a multimillion-dollar civil fraud dispute, and a commodities supply contract seated in Paris.

LCWP and Ng are currently working on several international arbitration cases governed by Malaysian law and English law.
