KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 11): Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) added 248 flight frequencies to its domestic and international travel network through to March 2024, to meet soaring travel demand during the festive season, it said in a statement on Monday.

MAG noted that the additional frequencies are offered on both Malaysia Airlines and Firefly flights departing from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1, Subang Airport, and Penang International Airport.

Domestically, Malaysia Airlines will increase flights from its main hub in KLIA Terminal 1 to Sibu, Tawau and Kuching, starting in December, to meet heightened travel demand, including during the Christmas period.

Firefly will see increased frequencies from Penang to Kota Kinabalu and Langkawi, as well as from Subang Airport to Langkawi.

Internationally, flights from Kuala Lumpur to Sydney, Melbourne, Amritsar, Cochin and Narita will experience increased frequencies as well.

For the Chinese New Year period, the airline will increase the Kuala Lumpur to Singapore route by double weekly.

“Meanwhile, additional frequencies to domestic routes will also be added to accommodate the festive celebration, with attractive one-way fares starting from RM109 within Peninsular Malaysia, and from RM255 for [the] Sabah and Sarawak routes,” said MAG.

MAG added that Malaysia Airlines will be adding extra flights from KLIA Terminal 1 to key domestic destinations — Kota Bharu, Alor Setar, Sandakan, Sibu, Tawau and Kuching — to accommodate festive celebrations.

“Anticipating a surge in travel demand, the substantial increase in flight frequencies represents the airline’s strategic approach to meeting the expanding requirements of travellers, offering them a wider range of travel dates for added flexibility and convenience.

“We urge travellers to plan and secure their seats early, to ensure a seamless and enjoyable travel experience, particularly during peak travel seasons, including Christmas, year-end, and Chinese New Year celebrations,” said MAG chief commercial officer of airline Dersenish Aresandiran.
