KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 7): The TRX City Park officially opened to the public last Wednesday (Nov 29). It is located on the rooftop of The Exchange TRX lifestyle hub and retail mall, and covers 10 acres (4.05 hectares). The retail component is part of The Exchange TRX mixed-development that sits on 17 acres and is developed by TRX City Sdn Bhd and Lendlease.
“The park ethos was crystalised six years ago, with the TRX City Park overall concept provided by Oculus from its studios in Melbourne and Sydney. The park has subsequently evolved and been documented by Pentago for the landscape design and GDP for the architectural elements within the park,” read a statement by Pentago on Thursday.
The key design concept of the park represents elements of the Malaysian landscape providing opportunities for visitors to explore various landscape types associated with changes in topography, such as forest edges, limestone outcrops, an urban village, hillside ravines, hillside streams leading to coastal lowlands, and landscapes that are modified by ethnobotanic planting.
These elements can be found in some of the destinations that have been designed in the park. These include: Forest Walk featuring a variety of Malaysian tree species; Play Space, which comprises Water Play for younger children, Play Village for children up to 12 years old, Play Cave for teenagers, and the Step Cascade Water Feature for children of all age; Event Lawn for community events, celebrations and concerts; Park Avenue and City Avenue with promenade routes for visitors to stroll around the park; Inspiration Garden, a refuge for a quiet space with a fish pond at the centre; and Serenity Garden, which displays a collection of medical and edible plants.
Key plants in the park are provided with name tags for educational purposes. Over 180,000 locally sourced plants and 900 trees have been planted across the 10-acre park.
