KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 29): The outcome of a police probe into three Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers who were allegedly involved in the robbery of a foreign businessman in his home in Ampang in December 2021 is now with the Attorney General’s Chambers.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Institutional Reform and Law) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said said this in a parliamentary reply to a question posed by Lim Lip Eng (Pakatan Harapan-Kepong).

“At present the investigation papers from the police are with the Attorney General Chambers and are being reviewed,” Azalina said to Lim’s query.

Lim was asking about the outcome or development of the investigation following a police report being lodged by the businessman in December that year, alleging that the three MACC officers had in early December taken RM700,000 from him, together with his and his wife's travel documents, claiming the money was suspected of being part of money-laundering activities.

However, the officers offered to return their travel documents later, leading the businessman to suspect something was amiss. He then lodged a police report, which resulted in the arrest of the three officers.

According to media reports at the time, Federal Criminal Investigation director Datuk Seri Abdul Jalil Hassan confirmed the arrest of the trio, who were then remanded and investigated under Section 395 of the Penal Code for gang robbery. The trio were later reported to have been released.
