KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 29): ISP Group of Companies (ISP), a real estate developer and investment holding company, commenced construction of its purpose-built workers accommodation (PBWA) in Kapar, Selangor on Monday (Nov 27), according to a press statement on the same day.

PBWA Kapar will be spread across a 2.05-acre tract and will comprise a 10-storey block that will house 210 furnished units, equipped with fittings such as fans and light fixtures, beds and mattresses, as well as lockers and drawers. The accommodation will have a maximum capacity of 3,780 beds.

The statement shared that ISP partnered with Westlite Accommodation for its PBWA projects’ design consultancy and operational management services.

In the statement, ISP founder and group executive director Eric Ng said, “ISP is proud to partner with established PBWA owner-operator, Westlite Accommodation, to develop our first PBWA in Selangor.

“We recognise that centralised, purpose-built worker housing is essential infrastructure for the manufacturing, retail and warehousing industry, such as in Selangor, which relies on a substantial migrant workforce, and we are committed to creating a sustainable living environment for these migrant workers. We aim to help provide employers and business owners with a safe, secure and efficient solution to their migrant worker management and accommodation needs,” Eric added.

PBWA Kapar will feature facilities such as a minimart, clinic, barber, mobile shop and self-service laundry, a centralised kitchen and dining hall on each floor, gym and recreational room, among others.

It will also comprise physical and digital safety and security measures, such as facial recognition and CCTV monitoring, dormitory management and turnstile system, as well as security guards on duty.

The groundbreaking ceremony on Monday was officiated by Selangor state executive council member (investment, trade and mobility) Ng Sze Han and Selangor state assemblyman for Bandar Baru Klang, Quah Perng Fei.

Sze Han said, “The manufacturing and construction industries in Selangor are rapidly growing, with each now accounting for one-third of the national figures. Both these sectors have created one of the highest employment opportunities in the country, with the increased demand for migrant workers resulting in a shortage of suitable accommodation that meets the Act 446 guidelines.

“So, we are pleased to welcome corporations such as ISP and Westlite, who are committed to being part of our long-term strategy to provide quality accommodation for migrant workers in Selangor,” Ng added.

Meanwhile, the statement said ISP is looking to develop 12 PBWAs within the next three years. These accommodations are expected to house 60,000 migrant workers. In addition to PBWA Kapar, ISP has also recently completed the 2,196-bed capacity PBWA Desa Cemerlang in Johor. The company is also set to commence construction for its 4,050-bed capacity PBWA Tebrau 1 in Johor, as well as the 6,120-bed capacity PBWA Serendah in Selangor.
