PUTRAJAYA (Nov 28): The Court of Appeal (COA) on Tuesday fixed Jan 31 next year to deliver its previously deferred decision on the appeal by former Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) chairman Tan Sri Mohd Isa Abdul Samad over his conviction and sentence for graft.
This follows case management of the matter before the appellate court's senior assistant registrar Huda Humaira Idris on Tuesday morning.
The outcome of the case management was confirmed by deputy public prosecutor Afzainizam Abdul Aziz and Mohd Isa’s counsel Siti Sarah Khalil when contacted by The Edge.
A three-member appellate bench led by Datuk Vazeer Alam Mydin Meera was supposed to deliver its verdict over Mohd Isa’s appeal to set aside his conviction and six-year jail sentence and RM15.45 million fine, or in default another 18 years' jail, for being found guilty of nine counts of graft.
On Oct 14, Vazeer, along with COA judges Datuk Ahmad Zaidi Ibrahim and Datuk SM Komathy Suppiah, reserved in delivering their decision on the appeal, after hearing submissions by Mohd Isa’s counsels led by Datuk Salehuddin Saidin.
Mohd Isa, 73, was found guilty by the High Court on Feb 3, 2021 on nine bribery charges amounting to RM3.09 million in Felda's acquisition of the Merdeka Palace Hotel & Suites in Kuching, Sarawak between July 21, 2014 and Dec 11, 2015, where the offence took place on the 49th floor of Menara Felda, Platinum Park, No 11, Persiaran KLCC, Kuala Lumpur.
