KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 21): The US International Trade Commission (USITC) has determined that there is a reasonable indication that an industry in the US is threatened by the import of aluminum extrusions from Malaysia, China, Colombia, Ecuador, India, Indonesia, Italy, Mexico, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, United Arab Emirates and Vietnam.

In a statement on Friday (Nov 17), the USITC said the products are allegedly sold in the US at less-than-fair value and subsidised by the governments of China, Indonesia and Mexico.

The commission also determined that there is a reasonable indication that a US industry is threatened with material injury by reason of imports of aluminum extrusions from Turkey that are allegedly subsidised by the government of Turkey.

The commission further found that the import of these products from the Dominican Republic that are allegedly sold in the US at less than fair value is negligible and voted to terminate the antidumping duty investigation concerning the Dominican Republic.

USITC chairman David S Johanson and commissioners Rhonda K Schmidtlein, Jason E Kearns, and Amy A Karpel voted in the affirmative with respect to imports from China, Colombia, Ecuador, India, Indonesia, Italy, Malaysia, Mexico, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, United Arab Emirates and Vietnam.

As a result of the commission’s affirmative determinations, the US Department of Commerce will continue its investigations of imports of aluminum extrusions from the abovementioned countries, with its preliminary countervailing duty determinations due on or about December 28, 2023, and its preliminary antidumping duty determinations due on or about March 12, 2024.

The commission’s public report Aluminum Extrusions from China, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, India, Indonesia, Italy, Malaysia, Mexico, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, and Vietnam (Inv. Nos. 701-TA-695-698 and 731-TA-1643-1657 (Preliminary), USITC Publication 5477, November 2023) will contain the views of the commission and information developed during the investigations.

The report will be available by Dec 26, 2023, said the USITC.
