KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 31): Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) has appointed former Digital Nasional Bhd's (DNB) chief commercial officer Ahmad Taufek Omar as its non-independent and non-executive director effective Nov 1.

In a local bourse filing on Tuesday, the telco said Ahmad Taufek, 55, has more than three decades of experience in the telecommunication and IT industry — particularly in business development and sales.

Notably, he also worked with almost all major telcos in Malaysia namely Maxis Communications Bhd, Celcom Axiata Bhd, Digi Telecommunications Bhd, Time dotCom Bhd, and TM.

“His last position was as chief business development and marketing officer of Sapura Group and prior to that, [he had] served as the Chief Commercial Officer of DNB. 

“He was the executive vice president of TM One from August 2019 to August 2021 entrusted to lead TM One as a fully integrated digital enabler for enterprises and the public sector. 

“Besides being in the telecommunication industry, Ahmad Taufek has also served as the chief digital marketing and information technology officer for QSR Brands Bhd and chief enterprise and business solutions officer of PT Smartfren TBK in Indonesia,” it said.

Shares in TM closed four sen or 0.8% higher to RM5.07, giving it a market capitalisation of RM19.45 billion.
