KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 10): Former attorney general Tan Sri Idrus Harun has been appointed as Amanah Raya Bhd (AmanahRaya) chairman, effective immediately.

Citing a statement, Berita Harian reported that AmanahRaya said Idrus’ appointment will help to improve its performance and capabilities as the main trustee company in the nation.

“With his vast experience, especially in the legal field, we believe that this will bring the group to greater heights,” it said.

Idrus served as AG from March 2020 to September 2023.

Idrus started his career as an assistant parliamentary legislator at the AG’s department before becoming a senior assistant registrar at the Kuala Lumpur High Court.

He then served as a deputy public prosecutor in several government departments before becoming Terengganu state legal adviser, senior federal counsel at the Election Commission and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, as well as a parliamentary legislator.

He was subsequently appointed as solicitor general in April 2006 and assumed the position of judge of the Court of Appeal in September 2014, and then judge of the Federal Court in November 2018, until he was appointed as AG.

Idrus, who has over 42 years of experience in the legal field, holds a Master of Laws with Honors from the University of Malaya.

He is also the elder brother of the 10th speaker of the Dewan Rakyat, Tan Sri Azhar Azizan Harun.
