KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 25): The Ministry of Communications and Digital (KKD) has proposed a 5G grant for the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to the Ministry of Finance (MOF) in the upcoming Budget 2024.
While specific details of the grant are yet to be disclosed, its minister Fahmi Fadzil said that the proposed grant aims to accelerate the adoption of 5G technology among MSMEs.
“I can’t say more at this point of time. Generally speaking, it is a facilitation and adoption grant. We would like to see more MSMEs participate in adopting 5G to their businesses,” Fahmi told reporters after officiating the Ericsson Imagine Live Malaysia 2023 event here on Monday.
He said the proposed grant is also a part of his ministry’s efforts to address the low rate of 5G adoption in Malaysia, as it is currently at a mere 4.2%.
“5G adoption can be a catalyst for economic growth and [can] transform various sectors in Malaysia, such as manufacturing, logistics and transportation, retail and entertainment, banking and finance, construction, agriculture, utilities and many others,” he said in his speech earlier.
Budget 2024, which is scheduled to be tabled in Parliament on Oct 13, will focus on the welfare of the people, the continuation and enhancement of assistance, as well as the development of the nation’s infrastructure.
