KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 19): Telekom Malaysia Bhd's (TM) former chief executive officer (CEO) Datuk Dr Md Khir Abdul Rahman has been appointed as an independent and non-executive director of sustainable energy and utilities provider Reneuco Bhd (formerly KPower Bhd).

Md Khir, 76, was previously CEO of TM from 2000 until 2004. Prior to this, he served as managing director of Mejati Technologies Group in 1996 and was general manager cum director of Malaysian Electronic Payment System (MEPS). 

He began his career with the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (Mardi) in 1972, before joining Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) in 1983.

“He has in-depth experience in information and communications technology, banking and payment systems as well as in the semiconductor services industry,” said Reneuco in a filing to Bursa Malaysia on Tuesday (Sept 19).

Meanwhile, Reneuco has also appointed Tunku Datuk Nooruddin Tunku Datuk Seri Shahabuddin as its independent and non-executive director.

Nooruddin, 59, was in March this year resigned as executive director of oil and gas (O&G) company Reach Energy Bhd seven years after joining the board.

“Nooruddin has an extensive background in the O&G, energy industries including Esso Malaysia Bhd (ExxonMobil), where he effectively managed refinery products distribution and government national accounts. 

“He was the ED of Reach Energy and Baker Hughes Inteq (M) Sdn Bhd and other subsidiaries of Baker Hughes Group of Companies in Malaysia involved in upstream O&G exploration and development activities,” it said.

He is currently the pro-chancellor of Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UnisZa) Terengganu and vice-president of Datuk Dato Malaysia Council (MDDM).

Shares in Reneuco finished unchanged at 21 sen on Tuesday (Sept 19), with a market capitalisation of RM126.02 million. The counter has declined 41.67% year-to-date.
