KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 18): BMW Group Malaysia said it has delivered over 1,600 electrified BMW, MINI and BMW Motorrad cars in the first eight months of 2023 (8M2023).

The 1,600 electric vehicles (EVs) sold in 8M2023 have surpassed the total 1,557 EVs the premium automaker sold in 2022. This further cemented its status as the number one premium automaker in Malaysia for the last three years, according to BMW Group Malaysia.

During a briefing on Monday, BMW Group Malaysia managing director Hans de Visser said that in an era marked by the imperative to transform, the carmaker is thrilled to lead the charge in Malaysia’s electrification journey — bolstered by the support of its loyal customers, dealers, and partners alike.

“This achievement commemorates lead, not just in the premium EV segment but also the overall EV ecosystem in the country…. At the heart of our vision for an electric future lies a profound commitment to electrification that seeks to reshape the future of mobility, where sustainability, luxury and innovation converge,” said De Visser.

Revolutionising charging accessibility with Gentari’s Charge Go

To truly catalyse the transition to electrified mobility, BMW Group Malaysia recognised the need to address the most pressing concern of many potential EV owners in Malaysia: range and charging anxiety.

To this end, the premium automaker expands its strategic partnership with Gentari Sdn Bhd, a clean energy solutions provider, via its wholly owned subsidiary Gentari Green Mobility Sdn Bhd, to make EV charging more accessible and convenient for all.

Gentari is a subsidiary of state-owned oil firm Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas).

Building upon Gentari’s success in establishing widespread EV charging infrastructure nationwide over the past year, the two organisations are now bringing Charge Go to life — a trailblazing mobile EV charging service that can provide on-the-go direct current fast-charging.

"We are thrilled to bring our mobile charging vehicle concept — one that we unveiled earlier this year — to life with Gentari. Our partnerships with key players like them underscore our belief that industry-wide collaboration is the engine driving the transformation towards an electric future. We hope to inspire more players in this field to elevate their commitment to electrification, collectively enriching the local EV ecosystem. This collaboration will be made available towards [the] end of 2023,” De Visser added.

BMW Group Malaysia introduces unlimited charging package from RM1,800

In celebration of their success, BMW Group Malaysia is also collaborating with local charging providers, ChargEV, alongside JomCharge & Gentari to offer exclusive unlimited charging packages for BMW and MINI EV owners in Malaysia.

From Oct 1 to Dec 31, 2023, the first 200 registrants of BMW and MINI EV owners can purchase the package from any of the aforementioned charging providers. The package, which costs RM2,400 for BMW EV owners and RM1,800 for MINI EV owners, provides unlimited charging at all ChargEV or JomCharge & Gentari facilities nationwide for 12 months upon activation and is only valid for use by the specific EV that was registered during sign-up.

Through BMW Group Malaysia’s strategic partnerships with key local charging solution providers, as well as their network of authorised dealers and partner venues across the country, the premium automaker has made over 1,000 charging facilities available to EV owners in Malaysia.

Meanwhile, the group has hosted an exclusive event that aims to present an immersive and interactive experience of its "Forwardism" philosophy that merges art with luxury, reimagining what was once impossible and pushing the boundaries of automotive excellence.

The event is located next to the Mandarin Oriental KL, members of the public will also be able to view and experience the BMW i7 up-close and explore the BMW Group's vision for sustainability under one roof.
