KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 7): The Employees Provident Fund (EPF) has acquired a 0.17% stake in Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) for RM98 million.

According to a bourse filing on Thursday, the pension fund acquired the stake comprising 10 million shares on Monday.

This was accompanied by an acquisition of 465,000 shares or a 0.01% stake on the same day, raising its stake in the national utility company to 904.38 million or 15.63%.

It is worth noting that Khazanah Nasional Bhd disposed of a block of 10 million TNB shares on Monday.  

A check with Bloomberg showed that a 10 million block of shares in TNB was traded on Monday. The block changed hands at RM9.80 per share — a 1.01% discount to the day’s close of RM9.90.

The disposal saw Khazanah’s stake in TNB drop to 23.49% or 1.36 billion shares.

Shares in TNB closed nine sen or 0.9% lower at RM9.87, giving the company a market capitalisation of RM57.12 billion.
Year to date, the counter has climbed 2.49%.
