KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 4): Former High Court judge Datuk Mohd Yazid Mustafa has been appointed as Bioalpha Holdings Bhd’s independent and non-executive chairman, effective Monday.

Mohd Yazid previously served as a High Court judge for over 15 years, prior to retiring from the judiciary in December last year, according to the health supplement maker’s bourse filing on Monday.

“Post-retirement, Mohd Yazid continues to serve as a Court of Appeal judge of the Terengganu Syariah Courts,” the company added.

It noted that he also sits on the board of LKL International Bhd as an independent and non-executive chairman.

Meanwhile, Bioalpha has also appointed lawyer Tan Su Ning as an independent and non-executive director, effective Monday. She also sits on the board of LKL International Bhd, as well as Jadi Imaging Holdings Bhd.

Yazid’s last acts as judge

At the tail-end of Mohd Yazid’s judicial career, he acquitted Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who was then former deputy prime minister, of all 40 graft charges in relation to alleged bribes received for facilitating the award of a foreign visa system (VLN) and one-stop services contract (OSC) in China.

Zahid has since sent letters of representation to the Attorney General’s Chambers with regard to the prosecution’s appeal over the VLN case.

It is understood that Attorney General (AG) Tan Sri Idrus Harun has yet to decide on the matter but is nonetheless slated to exit the top prosecutor post on Wednesday (Sept 6), to make way for Solicitor General Datuk Ahmad Terrirudin Mohd Salleh.

Shares in Bioalpha closed half a sen or 5.56% lower at 8.5 sen on Monday, giving the ACE Market-listed company a market capitalisation of RM119.34 million.
